We’re now winding down for Christmas and getting together our plans for 2019, which has led us to a discussion in the office of where we might like to travel to next…
The world is vast and the opportunities are numerous, so we certainly feel spoilt for choice!
Having reflected on the wonderful year of overseas travel we’ve had at Insure My Villa, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite destinations from 2018, along with the locations that members of our team have their eye on for next year…
Whilst many of our clients have seen us out and about in the gorgeous Cypriot city of Paphos, on our business trip back in August, my one true love, when it comes to holidays, has to be Ibiza. I visit Old Town every year, and it never disappoints. I already have my holiday booked for next year!
My favourite place to have visited in 2018 was Bali – it was an absolute paradise, and the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for a relaxing break (the flight was quite tiresome, though).
In 2019, I would love to visit Sweden – I’ve never been to Scandinavia and I think that it looks beautiful. I’d love to do a city break in Stockholm and see some of the stunning sights there (I’m also a big Girl with the Dragon Tattoo fan, so I think it’d be amazing to see the city in real life).
My trip to the Peloponnese in Greece made for the perfect holiday in 2018. The locals were warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere was so relaxing.
I hope to go back to the Peloponnese soon, but next on my list is Lake Como, in Italy. The lake and mountain views look fantastic.
I went to Monaco this year, and it was amazing, but the south of France as a whole was great. The culture, food and sea views are exceptional, and I advise anyone tempted to visit to do so at their next opportunity.
I have yet to decide on next year’s holiday, but I’ll be asking around the office for suggestions! However, I’m hoping to one day explore Italy.
Whilst somewhat a cliché, Paris in the summer is a completely magical experience. We booked a £20 bus from London Victoria, and seven hours later arrived in the French capital. Walking through the busy, cobbled streets, wandering along the banks of the Seine at twilight, and spending the days stopping in the various beautiful cafés, boulangeries, book shops and art galleries we came to was a relaxing but inspiring way to pass the time. A particular highlight was the Atelier des Lumières, a newly-opened, immersive art experience involving light projections and sound.
I’d really love to visit Krakow next year, I’ve heard great things about this city and have been brushing up on my Polish language skills in preparation!
I most enjoyed visiting Miami Beach, in the USA, this year.
Next year I would like to go back to Australia and visit places on the east coast, such as Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns.
I would also like to go back to the USA, to see the Everglades and Florida Keys, but also other places on the mainland, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. Islands belonging to USA, such as Hawaii or the Mariana Islands, are also on my list.
This year I enjoyed visiting Puerto Santiago in Tenerife. It is a very beautiful and picturesque part of the island. The hotel that I stayed in (Barcelo Santiago) overlooked Los Gigantes and La Gomera – perfect for people who love a room with a sea view and enjoy quieter locations when on holiday, without all of the hustle and bustle of the main towns.
Next year, I would love to visit Rome and as many of its historical sites as possible.
I went to Finland for the first time this year, in August, and it was everything I hoped it would be. The weather was fantastic – even warmer than we had it in the UK, over the summer! The overall atmosphere was calm and serene, and the food was delicious. I visited Turku and Naantali, which are to the west of Helsinki. In Naantali is the fabulous Moomin World theme park, home to the late author and artist Tove Jansson’s wise and peaceful characters.
I would like to travel to more Eastern European destinations next year, specifically Poland and Germany. I enjoyed Finland so much, that it’s likely I will find myself back there again.
Montenegro is a simply brilliant place to visit and I loved my time staying in the Bay of Kotor.
I am also very much looking forward to a trip to Italy, on the Sorrento coast next year. I hope to get some wonderful photos of Mt Vesuvius, for Insta My Villa.
