Lonely Planet has released its Best in Europe list for 2019, which highlights “the essential European destinations to visit this year”. It contains a great selection of areas, some of which we’ve yet to visit and now want to more than ever…
We’re particularly pleased to see a few areas listed that our readers are bound to be familiar with. Those of you who are clients or brokers will know that we insure overseas properties in seven countries – Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Cyprus, Republic of Ireland and Monaco. Of these seven, three have been mentioned by Lonely Planet!
We’re not surprised to see this one on the list, as Madrid is a timeless classic. Whether you’re relaxing on warm sandy beaches, dining out at local restaurants, or visiting the markets, it’s a completely different environment to the UK. Madrid also provides some amazing cultural experiences, varying from theatre productions, to art galleries and museums, to nightclubs. If you’re looking for new experiences, then Madrid is the place to be.
We LOVE Italy. We’re filled with warmth just by looking at photos of its sparkling coast, topped with a clear, deep blue sky. It’s calm and comfortable – the perfect combination for a relaxing holiday!
For those looking for a more spiritual experience, Bari has the Basilica of San Nicola and the Church of San Sabino, all smooth white stone on the outside and sights of ornate opulence on the inside.
Lyon is a beautiful alternative if you feel you’ve seen it all in Paris. The food is equally impressive, with plenty of unique bistros to choose from. It’s also home to one of the largest renaissance old quarters in Europe, Vieux Lyon. Here, you can walk down the cobbled Renaissance alleyways, and visit the many restaurants and boutiques.
Fans of football with holiday homes in the area are no doubt excited for the FIFA Women’s World Cup this July!
Shetland in Scotland also made it onto the list, which our sister company, Vasek Insurance, is happy to see! The team enjoys being out and about in Scotland, making visits to brokers, and they agree that there are some stunning views in the North.
